Looking for a business to start? Want to make some extra money but don’t have much to spend? Consider these three kitchen table business ideas that you can start from your kitchen table.

1. Information Marketing

If you have a passion or intimate knowledge about a topic then you can create an information product. Information marketing is the process of creating and selling information on a niche topic. For example, parenting twin toddlers is a niche topic. If you are familiar with this topic you can create books, home study courses and even videos on the topic and sell them.

Many people avoid this business model because they’re not confident with their writing skills. Most successful ebooks and information products are written conversationally. That is to say they’re written like you speak. Write your book like you would talk to or write a letter to a friend.

Additionally, there are few barriers to entry for this business model. It fits just about any niche topic. You need very little to get started as an information marketer. To get started you need a product, a sales page, and the means to buy your book. That’s it!

2. Theme Based Website or Blog

A theme based website or blog is a site that focuses on a singular topic. For example, coaching junior high school basketball is a niche. Content is then created to discuss, educate and inform those interested in or involved in coaching. All you need to start a theme based website or blog is a website or blog. You also need a niche and content. Find a topic that you are interested in, passionate about or knowledgeable in. Make sure there is an interest in your topic, aka demand. And make sure you don’t have too much competition. Start your website or blog and then monetize it by adding affiliate links and advertising to your site.

3. Freelancer

The freelance world has really opened up over the last few years. You can now offer your services to just about anyone around the world. And the great thing about freelance is that it isn’t just a creative field anymore. There are still freelance photographers, designers and writers but there are also freelance consultants, administrative assistants and marketing representatives.

Evaluate your skills and evaluate the potential for a freelance career. As a freelancer you control your hours, rates, and whom you work with. It’s a nice way to earn a part time or full time income right from your kitchen table.

Within each of these three business models there are literally hundreds if not thousands of possibilities. Brainstorm a list of your interests, skills and passions. Explore the three business models discussed here and find a match that works for you.
